코로나 펜데믹은 대한민국 국민들의 생활패턴을 바꿔놨다. 사람이 많이 모이는 곳을 습관적으로 피한다. 더구나 택시요금의 대폭 인상으로 대중교통이 끊기기 전에 서둘러서 집으로 향한다. 이러다 보니 당구장 영업이 타격을 입는다.
당구장 직원이나 아르바이트 급여도 많이 올랐고 비싼 임대료에 음료수비를 매출에서 제하고 나면 남는 게 없다. 이런 힘든 여건 속에서 당구장에 로봇이 등장하고 무인시스템이 도입되는 등 당구장 영업형태도 다양해지고 있다. 인건비를 안 들이는 영업시스템이 당구업계도 도입되고 있다.
경기도에 무인시스템을 도입해서 알찬 수익을 올리는 당구장이 있다는 소식을 듣고 김포시로 향했다. 낮에는 정상영업을 하고 밤에는 무인시스템으로 운영한다는 김포시 풍무동당구장은 건물 입구에 눈에 잘 띄도록 ‘무인당구장’이라고 적힌 에어탑 간판을 세워놓았다. 엘리베이터로 6층 당구장 출입구 앞에 도착하니 무인 키오스크가 보였다.
휴대폰 번호를 누르고 나만의 4자리 비밀번호를 누르니 카드결제 시스템 화면이 나왔다. 카드를 넣고 요금을 결제하니 테이블 배치도 화면으로 바뀌었다. 맨 구석 테이블을 선택해서 누르니 출입문이 열리고 내가 선택한 당구대의 조명이 들어왔다. 당구장 내에는 처음 무인시스템을 이용하는 사람도 알기 쉽게 현수막에 이용사항과 퇴실방법이 적혀있었다.
이제 한쪽에 놓인 당구공을 가져가 테이블에서 당구를 즐기면 된다. 내가 결제한 요금만큼의 시간이 종료되면 이용시간을 연장할 수 있고, 결제요금을 다 사용하기 전에 경기가 끝나면 잔여금액은 적립된다. 컴퓨터와 인터넷에 버벅대는 기자도 이용하기에는 전혀 무리가 없었다.
기자는 ‘풍무동당구장’을 두 번 방문해서 실제로 무인시스템을 이용해봤다. 그리고 무인시스템을 운영하는 양정일 이사를 만났다. 양정일 이사는 장애인체육회 당구선수로 활동하고 있는 유명 동호인이었다. 젊은 시절 생활체육 당구대회에서 숱한 입상을 기록한 양정일 이사는 무인당구장 시스템 홍보와 운영을 맡고 있었다.
양정일 이사는 “무인시스템을 도입하려는 당구장 사장님들이 가장 우려하는 부분은 도난과 파손인데 전혀 걱정할 필요가 없습니다. 제가 4개월간 운영해보니 손님들의 의식이 높아져서 단 한건의 도난 파손 사건도 없었습니다. 그리고 곳곳에 CC-TV가 있기 때문에 그런 걱정은 하실 필요가 없다고 없습니다.”라고 설명한다.
또한 “낮에는 정상영업을 하고 밤 11시에 심야영업으로만 전환해서 영업하는 분들이 가장 많습니다. 어떤 때는 하룻밤에만 20만원의 매출을 올린 적도 있지만, 평균 10만원 이상의 매출이 무인시스템에서 발생합니다. 점점 매출도 늘어나는 추세인데, 주로 학생들이나 밤늦게 일을 마치는 직장인 단골들이 멀리서도 찾아옵니다.”라고 무인시스템을 홍보한다. 덧붙여 양정일 이사는 “우리 풍무동당구장을 방문하시면 제기 무인시스템 운영에 관해 자세히 설명드리겠습니다.”라고 홍보한다.
무인당구장 운영시스템에 관심이 있는 당구장 사장님들께서는 김포시에 위치한 풍무동당구장을 방문하면 무인시스템에 대한 모든 궁금증이 풀릴 것으로 생각된다.
