‘전 포켓볼 여왕, 현 LPBA여제’ 김가영이 중국에서 오랜만에 포켓볼 큐를 잡아 화제다.
김가영은 최근 헤이볼업체인 PUSHIZHE社와 홍보계약을 체결, 현재 중국 광저우에서 진행중인 ‘2024 제18회 국제당구박람회(GBE 2024)’서 해당 업체 부스 이벤트를 소화했다.
이 자리에서 ‘전 포켓볼 여왕’은 부스를 가득 채운 관객들과 미팅 후 헤이볼 시범을 보여 큰 박수와 환호를 이끌어 냈다.
김가영의 인기와 위상은 PUSHIZHE의 ‘GBE 2024’ 부스행사 홍보물에서도 간접적으로 체감할 수 있었다. 초청선수 5명이 담긴 포스터 정 가운데에 김가영이 배치된 것.
헤이볼은 중국식 포켓볼을 말한다. 축소된 스누커 테이블에서 포켓볼 공으로 즐기며, 경기방식은 (포켓)8볼 방식을 따른다.
헤이볼 포켓은 기존 포켓볼 경기용 테이블보다 작고, 중국에서는 대게 스누커 큐로 헤이볼을 친다.
이와 관련해, 이번 이벤트에서 포켓볼 큐로 헤이볼을 시범보인 김가영은 자신의 페이스북에 “오랜만에 (포켓볼 공을 치니)어렵다”는 후기를 남겼다.
한편, 김가영은 PBA로 이적 전 ‘포켓볼 여왕’으로 군림했다. 세계선수권대회, US오픈, 차이나 오픈, 암웨이 컵 국제오픈 등 메이저대회 타이틀을 번쩍 들며 세계랭킹 ‘톱’에도 군림한 바 있다.
그러던 지난 2019년, 캐롬종목을 선택하며 프로당구무대에 진출한 그는 통산 ‘7회 우승’ 등 역사를 쓰며 ‘LPBA 당구여제’로 굳건히 자리하고 있다.
