25일 새벽 8강서 한국을 꺾고 준결승에 오른 스페인은 일본(우메다 류지-미야시타 타카오)과 본경기를 비긴 뒤 승부치기서 15:5로 승리, 결승에 올랐다.
스페인의 이 대회 최고성적은 은메달(2개)이다. 동메달은 6개. 메달 8개나 따내는 동안, 금메달을 목에 걸지 못한 스페인의 한이 풀릴지 주목된다.
앞서 베트남 또한 4강서 미국(휴고 파티노-레이몬 그루트)과 본경기 무승 부 후 승부치기서 15:13 신승을 거두며 대회 파이널을 밟게 됐다.
이로써 사상 첫 ‘세계팀선수권’ 메달을 확보한 베트남은 내친김에 시상대 맨 꼭대기까지 노린다.
