우리 일행은 2024년 5월 9일 새벽 6시에 인천공항 제2터미널에 집결했다. 5월 10~12일까지 3일 동안 중국 광저우에 위치한 푸조우전시장에서 열린 ‘2024 제18회 국제당구박람회(GBE 2024)’에 참관하기 위해서다.
이병규 빌플렉스 대표를 단장으로 유병립 볼텍코리아 대표, 이길남 서울시니어당구협회장, 임성용 경북시니어당구협회 사무국장, 박순종 칼럼니스트, 류연식 빌리존 대표, 안진환 KNB 대표와 박지현 이사, 이성혁 이사, 강병철 작대기당구재료 대표, 이성록 제우스 대표, 모금화 케이큐(온라인쇼핑몰) 대표 등이다.
우리 일행과는 별도로 해마다 부스를 개설하는 코스모스(다이아몬드공) 김종희 대표를 비롯한 임직원들, 올해 처음 부스를 개설하는 대전큐맨의 조영만 대표, 전남수 TPO-K 대표, 조연흥 다이아몬드팁 임직원들도 따로 광저우로 출발했다.
매년 참관만 하던 KNB도 올해는 부스를 개설하고 전세계 당구계를 상대로 KNB의 제품을 홍보한다. 10일에는 허리우드 참관단 일행도 도착할 것이라고 하니 대한민국의 내로라하는 용품업체들과 당구인들이 대거 광저우 박람회장에 모이는 것이다.
대한항공 KE0865편 비행기는 3시간 40분을 날아 광저우 바이윈국제공항에 도착했다. 한국과 광저우의 시차는 1시간이다. 공항을 나오니 후끈한 열기가 온몸을 감싼다. 이곳의 날씨는 한국보다 대력 7~8도 가량 높다. 한낮의 기온이 29~30도로 한국의 초여름날씨이다.
내일부터 시작되는 박람회에 부스를 개설한 볼텍코리아와 KNB 관계자들은 행사준비를 위해 곧바로 파조우전시장으로 향했고, 나머지 일행은 예약해둔 미니버스를 타고 숙소로 향했다.
숙소는 매년 그렇듯이 웬저우 부근으로 정했다. 광저우 박람회장인 파조우전시장과는 다소 거리가 멀지만, 한국인타운이라고 할만큼 한국사람들이 많이 살고, 편의시설이 많기 때문에 항상 이곳에 숙소를 정한다.
우리의 숙소는 아파트민박 형태이다. 방이 7~8개나 되는 중국풍의 아파트 숙소는 홀로 우두커니 지내야 하는 호텔방보다 훨씬 편하다. 아침저녁으로는 조선족 아주머니가 한국음식을 만들어주고, 때로는 라면도 끓여주니 중국 음식이 입에 맞지 않는 일부 한국사람들에게는 최고의 숙소라고 할 수 있다.
숙소에 짐을 풀고 여유롭게 휴식을 취했다. 파조우전시장으로 향했던 일행들이 숙소로 돌아왔고 다 같이 한국음식으로 저녁식사를 마친 일행은 중국전통 발마사지를 받기 위해 광저우의 밤거리로 나섰다. 십수년 동안 해마다 방문해서인지 광저우의 밤거리가 친숙했다.
발마사지를 좋아하는 필자는 거의 매일 거르지 않고 발마사지를 받는 편이다. 중국을 처음 방문했던 1998년 중국의 발마사지 요금은 10위안 가량이었다. 지금은 비교적 저렴한 곳이 140위안(약. 25,000원) 정도이니까 26년만에 무려 14배가 오른 셈이다.
그래도 한국의 엉터리 발마사지에 비교할 바가 아니니 이곳에 오면 틈나는대로 발마사지를 받는 것이 남는 것이라는 생각이 든다. 모두들 발마사지와 각질제거 등으로 여행의 피곤함을 풀었고, 내일 박람회 일정을 무난히 소화하기 위해 일찌감치 잠을 청했다.
다음날 아침 박람회 전시장에 도착한 일행은 모두들 놀라는 표정을 감추지 못했다. 지난해보다 규모가 더욱 커지고, 훨씬 세련된 부스에는 전세계에서 모인 당구용품, 특히 신제품이 관람객들의 시선을 끌고 있었다. (2편에서 계속)
