거대한 ‘GBE 2024’ 전시장
中 빅5 업체 ‘규모경쟁’
아침 8시에 간단히 아침을 먹고 숙소를 나서 ‘2024 제18회 국제당구박람회(GBE 2024)’ 개최장인 파조우전시장으로 향했다.
파조우전시장은 한국의 킨텍스보다 열배 정도는 크고 넓어 보였다. 수십개의 전시동 중에 1개 전시동, 그중에서도 1/3정도만 사용하는 당구박람회 장소이지만 족히 수천평은 넘는 것 같다.
관람객들은 주로 중국 전역에서 몰려든 수천여명의 재료상들과 당구 관계자들이다. 또한 전세계 글로벌 당구용품 업체들이 빠짐없이 참여하는데, 이들 업체와 거래하기 위해 지구촌 곳곳에서 바이어들이 광조우 박람회장에 모여들어 행사장은 북새통을 이뤘다.
필자는 중국의 대표적인 테이블 생산업체인 Xīngpái(성패), JOY빌리어드, RASSON, Shender, Yalin 등의 부스가 궁금했다. 이들 빅5 중국 테이블 생산업체는 규모의 경쟁을 하고 있었다. 항상 전시장 입구 가장 눈에 띄는 자리에 대형부스를 설치하고 중국 특유의 덩치를 과시하고 있는 해당 업체들이다. 더 크고, 더 화려한 경쟁은 물론, 최고의 선수들을 초정하여 각종 이벤트로 관람객들의 시선을 끌었다.
이들 업체는 중국정부와 손잡고 우승상금만 10억원에 육박하는 헤이볼(차이니즈8볼) 대회를 개최해 당구열풍을 주도하고 있다. WPA(세계포켓볼협회)나 WNT(월드9볼투어)에 수십억의 후원금을 쏟아붙기도 한다.

이번 박람회의 특징은 부스마다 미녀모델을 동원해 참관객들의 시선을 끌고 있다는 점이다.
이 가운데 김가영 차유람 김보건 김진아 유승우 등 한국의 포켓볼 선수들도 업체의 러브콜을 받아 각종 이벤트에 참여해 참관객들의 발길을 멈추게 했다.
김가영은 중국 헤이볼업체인 PUSHIZHE와 홍보계약을 체결하고 오랜만에 포켓볼 기량을 과시했고, 차유람은 두군데 중국업체의 초청을 받아 행사에 참여했다.
김-차 두 선수가 관람객 앞에 나설 때면 구름관중이 몰려들었다. 아직도 중국에서 두 선수의 인기는 전혀 식지 않았음을 증명했다.
오후에는 대한당구연맹 박보환 회장과 신용진 전무이사가 방문, 테이블업체인 RASSON과 스누커대회용 테이블 후원계약의 물꼬를 텄다. 따라서, 앞으로 대한당구연맹의 종합대회에 사용할 스누커테이블은 RASSON의 테이블이 될 전망이다.
‘개근참가’ 볼텍코리아, 여전한 인기
‘첫선’ KNB, 중국 재료상 문의 줄이어
한편 해마다 빠짐없이 참가하고 있는 볼텍코리아의 부스는 변함없이 관람객들의 관심을 받았고, 올해 처음으로 부스를 개설한 KNB(대표 안진환)와 대전큐맨(대표 조영만)의 제품들도 중국재료상들의 문의가 줄을 이었다. 특히 KNB의 박지현 이사와 모금화 대표(KNB협력업체)는 중국전통의상을 착용하고 제품을 홍보 판매하여 중국인들의 시선을 끌었다.
박람회 첫날의 하루는 이렇듯 바쁘게 돌아갔고, 지난해보다도 규모가 훨씬 커졌음에도 인산인해를 이루자 주최측 인사들의 입가에는 흐믓한 미소가 떠나질 않았다.
저녁에는 코스모스(대표 김종희, 다이아몬드공 생산업체)의 중국총판인 PUSHIZHE의 양대괴 대표가 베푸는 만찬에 한국 참관단 30여명이 초청되었다. 연변조선족자치주 당구협회 사무국장 시절 한국의 생활체육당구연합회와 교류전으로 십수년 동안 왕래하던 인연이 지금까지 이어져 오고 있는 것이다.
박람회장 인근에 위치한 6성급 샹그릴라호텔에 마련된 연회에는 우리 일행외에도 박보환 KBF회장 일행과 홍승빈 허리우드 대표 일행, 베트남 하노이에서 막 도착한 이희진 FMG대표, 그리고 김가영 선수 등 한국당구를 대표하는 당구인들이 대거 합류하여 화기애애한 시간을 보냈다.
중국업체의 융숭한 대접을 받고 우리 일행은 김종희 코스모스 대표가 베푸는 발마사지를 받으며 박람회 첫날 일정을 모두 마쳤다.(3편에서 계속)
