한국이 이번에도 8강 문턱을 넘는 데 실패했다.
조명우와 허정한, 대한민국 대표팀이 24일 새벽(한국시간) 독일 비어센에서 펼쳐진 ‘세계팀3쿠션선수권대회’ 8강서 스페인과 접전 끝에 승부치기서 패배, 4강진출에 실패했다.
이날 한국의 허정한(세계14위, 경남당구연맹)은 스페인의 세르히오 지메네즈(188위)에 더블스코어 차 이상인 40:16으로 완승, 팀 ‘맏형’의 역할을 톡톡히 해냈다. 예선 포함 개인전 4연승 질주였다.
그러나 ‘세계1위’ 조명우(서울시청, 실크로드시앤티)가 루벤 레가즈피(26위)와 33이닝 장시간 대결 끝에 33:40으로 패배, 8강전 결과는 승부치기로 갈리게 됐다.
조명우는 17이닝까지 21:14로 앞서던 경기의 승리를 내줘 더욱 아쉬웠다.
본경기 후 이어진 승부치기(스카차더블)서 양팀 중 먼저 15점에 도달한 건 스페인이었다. 한국과 9:9 박빙의 상황서 끝내기 하이런 6점을 터뜨리며 8강전 최종 승자가 됐다.
이로써 6년만의 정상탈환을 노리던 한국은 지난 2022년에 이어 3개 대회 연속으로 8강서 짐을 싸야 했다. 초미의 관심사였던 ‘당구 한일전’ 또한 성사되지 않았다.
대회 준결승은 한국을 꺾은 스페인과 일본(우메다 류지-미야시타 타카오), 베트남(쩐꾸엣찌엔-바오프엉빈)-미국(휴고 파티노-레이몬 그루트) 대결로 압축됐다.
준결승전은 24일 오후 7시 베트남-미국, 2시간 뒤인 오후 9시 일본-스페인 순으로 치러진다. 대망의 결승전은 25일 자정에 시작된다.
