허정한 선수와 부인 정문영 선수(좌) 허정한 선수가 청주시 용암동에 엠블당구클럽을 오픈했다. 가브리엘 라팔 2.0 10대와 큐스코스코어시스템을 설치했고 감각적인 인테리어와 실용적인 공간 배치로 대대매니아들의 마음을 사로잡을 엠블당구클럽은 사십대 중반에 접어든 허정한 선수와 부인 정문영 선수의 당구에 대한 열정과 꿈이 어린 결정체이다.
7월 16일 엠블당구클럽 개업식이 열리던 날, 청주와 충북의 당구인들은 물론 전국에서 장대비가 쏟아지는 악천후를 무릅쓰고 축하객이 몰려들어 허정한&정문영 부부에게 격려와 축하를 아끼지 않았다. 출입구부터 화환과 화분이 발 디딜 틈 없이 꽉 들어차서 걸어 다니기가 불편할 정도였고, 하루종일 테이블은 쉴 새 없이 돌아가고 있었다. 한쪽에서는 오랜만에 만난 당구인들끼리 개업떡과 음식을 먹으며 담소를 나누고 있었다. 2000년대 초반 경남당구연맹에 등록한 허정한 선수는 2006년부터 현재까지 한국당구의 정상급 선수로 활동하고 있다. 특히 2016년 후루가다월드컵에서 우승을 차지하면서 세계적인 선수로 우뚝 섰고, 국내대회에서도 셀 수 없을 정도로 많은 우승 기록을 갖고 있다. 허정한 선수는 얼마 전 끝난 남원 문화체육부장관기 전국대회에서 1년 4개월만에 우승하며 존재감을 알렸다.
허정한 선수의 부인 정문영 선수도 과거 2008년 한밭배 전국여자3쿠션대회 우승을 비롯하여 2008년 전국체전 여자3쿠션 우승, 2009년 아담-듀프린 전국여자3쿠션대회 우승, 2009년 한밭 플러스파이브배 여자3쿠션대회 우승 등 숱한 입상경력을 가진 당구선수 출신이다. 이들은 2007년 정문영 선수가 방송경기 심판으로 활동할 때 만났다. 때마침 정문영 선수가 허정한 선수와 조재호 선수의 경기에 심판으로 나섰는데, 이때 77년생 동갑임을 알고 친구로 지내기로 했다고 한다. 그리고 이듬해인 2008년 청주 CBC당구장에서 교제를 시작했고 2010년 12월 19일에 결혼에 골인했다. 정문영은 2011년 첫째 딸을 임신하면서 서천 한산모시대회를 끝으로 은퇴했고, 2015년에는 둘째를 득남하면서 평범한 주부로 지내다가 엠블당구클럽을 개업하면서 직접 경영에 나섰다.
이들 부부의 당구장 운영은 이번이 처음은 아니다. 몇 년 전 동업으로 대형당구장을 운영한 경험이 있지만, 뜻대로 되지 않아 정리했었다. 이번에는 정문영 선수의 친정동생의 권유로 시작하게 되었는데, 워낙 허정한 선수의 팬들이 많고 건물의 입지가 좋아서 영업은 잘 되고 있다. 혹시 청주에 갈 일이 있는 동호인들은 용암동 엠블당구클럽에 들러서 냉커피 한잔 마시고 가는 것을 권해본다.
